The Emma Award-winning Alexi Tuomarila Trio has been active since 2004. The years spent together are evident in the trio's music, as Tuomarila's trio has evolved over the years into a cohesive unit.

The trio consists of pianist Alexi Tuomarila, Norwegian ECM recording artist Mats Eilertsen, and the nuanced drummer Olavi Louhivuori. The trio's music emphasizes melodically and rhythmically strong compositions and the nearly telepathic connection between its members. Their music is filled with emotional and melancholic warmth, balanced by robust rhythmic patterns and free improvisation.

The upcoming album by the Alexi Tuomarila Trio, to be released in the fall of 2024, will be the band's fifth. Edition has also released the trio's previous three albums. Tuomarila's latest album Sphere won the Jazz Emma Award in 2020, and received 5/5 stars from both Helsingin Sanomat and BBC Music Magazine.
