Mikko Mustonen (b. 1968) has studied trombone playing in Sibelius Academy and in the Royal Concervatory of Denmark. In addition to trombone he playes also basstrombone, tuba and euphonium, and he is thus really popular musician in different jazz-, pop- and rockbands. For example jazzmusicians Timo Lassy, Jukka Eskola and Sami Pitkämö have used Mustonen's skills in their albums and bands.
Mustonen was chosen to play in UMO big band's trombonesection in 1993, and from that year on he has worked as a really important part of the big band. In 1996 he was chosen as the Brassplayer of the year by Lieksan vaskiviikot, which was the first time ever a jazzmusician has got the recognition.
