Jussi Lampela (b. 1972) is a real all-around musician: mainly he has been doing arranging and composing works for different groups and for concerts, records, films and television but he is also a talented guitarist and a famous teacher.

Lampela graduated from the jazz department of the Sibelius Academy in 2002, majoring in guitar. He had however gained more education in United States and Sweden and studied composing under Kari Heinilä. Lampela has been an active performer with several big bands and orchestras around Finland. He has performed i.a. with UMO Jazz Orchestra, Jean S., Markku Johansson's group, Pekka Toivanen's group, Symphony Lahti, The City Orchestra of Kuopio, Espoo Big Band, Tapiola Sinfonietta, Helsinki Police Band and the Great Helsinki Swing Big Band.

With his own group Jussi Lampela Nonet Lampela has been working already for several years, mostly in the role of a composer and a leader. A joint album between Jussi Lampela Nonet and trumpetist Jukka Eskola named Lampela x Eskola (Ricky-Tick Records 2010) was a nominee for the Jazz-Emma Prize as the Jazz Recording of the Year in 2010. Lampela X Eskola was a follow-up for the debut soloalbum of Lampela, Episode 1, that was released in 2007.

Nowadays the main job for Lampela is arranging and composing for different groups, such as for big bands, symphony orchestras and smaller ensembles. Long-term collaboration partners for Lampela have been for example Vantaa Pops, Oulu All Star Big Band, the album productions of Jukka Eskola and Teppo Mäkynen and composer Pessi Levanto and his compositions for different Finnish films. Lampela has also composed lots of music for different films, e.g. for Lepakkomies ja rajanvetäjä -documentary. Some of the recent works in 2013 have been i.a. the arrangement work of the musical My Fair Lady for a chamber orchestra, arrangements for Oulu Symphony and for Teppo Mäkynen's new 8-member group.

Besides arrangement work, Lampela has had time to work as the chairman of Great Helsinki Swing Big Band Association and teach music theory, ensemble work and guitar at several music institutions, i.a. at the jazzdepartment of the Sibelius Academy, the music school of Vantaa, Pop/jazz school Ebeli and at the pop/jazz-department of Metropolia University of Applied Sciences.
