Eeppi Ursin (b. 1977) studied for a long time classical music and oboe but kept popular music close by singing and playing piano in different bands. The jazz bug that bit her in high school led Ursin first to the music department of Orivesi College of Arts and later on to the Conservatory of Joensuu. In 2000 she returned to Helsinki and started her studies at the Stadia University of Applied Sciences studying jazz vocals. At the latest the name of this young singer came familiar to the public in summer 2001 when Ursin won the Lady Summertime jazz vocal competition.

In spring 2001 Ursin strated to work with some new material her for her own band, who played their debut performance at Jazz @ Opera Festival the next fall. This new quintet was named Eeppi Ursin Band and they released their debut album Violet in February 2005. This ensemble that bravely combined elements from jazz, soul and pop-rock was also spiced up with the trumpeting of Timo Lassy and Jukka Eskola and a string quartet. Later on the quintet has shrunken into a quartet and Ursin has moved from being a singer to being a singer-pianist.

Besides her own band, one important group for Ursin has been pianist Aki Rissanen's Warp!-trio who won the Finnish event of Young Nordic Jazz Comets competition in 2003 and released few years later an album called One Note Stories, where most of the lyrics were written by Ursin. After Warp! this talented singer has used her skills in a modern cappella ensemble Aia, who combines influences from electronic music and chamber jazz.
