Biography

The album, recorded live at the We Jazz Festival, Porvoo Jazz Festival and G Livelab Helsinki, was released in early 2021. The songs, recorded live in 2019 and 2020, present the unique mutual dynamics and ability of long-time collaborators Timo Lassy & Teppo Mäkynen to create memorable, extensive soundscapes in an instant.

Tenor saxophonist Timo Lassy and drummer-producer Teppo Mäkynen's long-awaited double album Live Recordings 2019-2020 was released in early 2021. The songs, recorded live in 2019 and 2020, showcase the unique interplay dynamics of long-time collaborators and the ability to instantly create memorable, extensive soundscapes.

The recent album is a sequel to the duo’s debut album, which received an ecstatic reception both in Finland and elsewhere. The studio album was chosen i.a. on the Jazz Album Of the Year list of British DJ Gilles Peterson at the prestigious Worldwide Awards Gala. The live record has received glowing reviews from e.g. the British magazine The Wire. Daniel Spicer wrote that the album is "proof that the duo of tenor saxophone and drums is one of the endlessly renewable ensembles of jazz." Spicer also compares Lassy and Mäkynen to the greats of the genre, John Coltrane and Elvin Jones "in full flight."
