Biography

Jyväskylä-based Odd Brew's debut LP Kummapaahtoa has been fermented with care during the band's six-year existence.

The tunes, written by the quintet's founder and keyboardist Santeri Kaipiainen, have found their inspirations from West Africa (Askel eteen, Nu dagbe dagbe sato), electronic music and pop hits (House of Brew, Yläkaupungin jytä), modal jazz (Fake Arm) as well as progressive rock (Cyclus). The band nods to its hometown with an Aulis Raitala cover Laulu synnyinseudulle – the original melody is played from Jyväskylä water tower every summer evening at 8 pm.

"Great music in which they have to slow down every now and then." –Jan van Leersum, rootstime.be

"They aren't shy about being inspired by everything groovy and their debut album Kummapaahtoa presents a cheerful mix of electric fusion, modern jazz, funk, chart pop and even some afrobeat flavors." –Jazzpossu,

"Fourteen Finnish Jazz Albums You Should Know" "The list only gives a glimpse of the band's versatility. Diverse influences have been melted into a distinctive own style, where lightness meets energy and magnificent climactic flight. (4/5)" –Pentti Ronkainen, Keskisuomalainen
