Biography

Dark Days is an ambient and drone-focused noir jazz album, with also room for techno and jungle aesthetics in its experimental environment. The album can be described as minimalist, melancholic and introspective.

On Dark Days, the personal meets the universal. Almost entirely instrumental, the album makes references on an ideological level to the limitations of life, the polarization of society, and social tensions. The central idea of the album is to evoke moods in its listeners and and bring thoughts generated by those moods to the surface. The listener will be taken on a safe but intimate journey into their own inner world to face sad and distressing emotions.

Aleksi Myllykoski describes the central idea of the album's creation as a study of different shades and colors of sound, and the auditory way to achieve a desired emotion. In addition to this, Myllykoski also focuses on the structures of rhythm more than melodies.

Tapani Rinne's saxophone acts as a promise of salvation and light, and counterbalances the sometimes dark soundscape. Myllykoski and Rinne have been collaborating for more than a decade, and this can be heard on the album Dark Days.
