Ville Vannemaa announced as new Artistic Director for Turku Jazz Orchestra

Saxophonist-composer-arranger-conductor Ville Vannemaa will take up the post of artistic director of Turku Jazz Orchestra from the beginning of next year. He will follow in the footsteps of Tero Lindberg, who has been leading the orchestra since 2018.

Ville Vannemaa (b. 1983) is one of Finland's most sought-after jazz musicians. He has conducted UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra, Espoo Big Band and Oulu All-Star Big Band, as well as Turku Jazz Orchestra. Vannemaa plays saxophone and other wind instruments in several of Finland's leading line-ups, from UMO to Popeda and from various city theaters to jazz small bands.

Vannemaa will take over as artistic director at the beginning of 2022 as trumpeter Tero Lindberg, who has lead the orchestra for four years, steps down. Lindberg has courted Vannemaa as early as 2018, and he is pleased to be able to hand over the orchestra to good hands.

Tero Lindberg will be heard in November as a soloist with Turku Jazz Orchestra on a "farewell tour" called Cold War 3.0. The tour's repertoire consists of Lindberg's oven-fresh compositions.

The first 2022 concert of Turku Jazz Orchestra will be heard on a jazz cruise on Viking Grace on January 22nd.
