The oceanic Archipelago Sea Jazz -concept is proud to introduce a newcomer to the Finnish summer festival calendar. The first Turku Sea Jazz event will be enjoyed at the atmospheric Ruissalo Boatyard during the last weekend of July amongst top-of-the-bill artists such as Aki Rissanen, Nina Mya, Tuomo, Dalindèo and the Helsinki-Cotonou Ensemble.

Turku Sea Jazz is a new summer city festival which invites visitors to the historical oceanic scenery of Ruissalo Boatyard to enjoy top performances of rhythm and jazz. The renowned jazz city of Turku offers quality music throughout the year, and the new Turku Sea Jazz will satisfy the thirst of jazz fans during summertime. Turku Sea Jazz is one of the four festivals featured on the oceanic Archipelago Sea Jazz series of concerts which also include Baltic JazzKorpo Sea Jazz and the second newcomer Åland Sea Jazz.

The all-time first Turku Sea Jazz will be held from 30th to 31st of July 2021 at the scenic Ruissalo Boatyard, inside the historical halls of Westin and Estlander. On the opening day, the stage will be occupied by the Yrjö-prized duo Timo Lassy & Teppo Mäkynen, new generation top creative Euro jazz musicians Lucia Cadotsch Speak Low II, the elegant and topical sextet Dalindèo, as well as singer Nina Mya among her supergroup. On Saturday, the jazz crowd will be charmed by the unique Omniwerk-instrument and its player pianist Aki Rissanen with his solo concert, the touching and much lauded Verneri Pohjola Quartet, dazzling Turku Jazz Orchestra featuring the fantastic pianist-singer Tuomo as the main vocalist, and the certified dancefloor heater: the afrobeat-group Helsinki-Cotonou Ensemble.

Free events are also available during the festival. On Friday, at the dock of the boatyard, a warm-up concert titled Archipelago Sea Jazz All Stars will be held and led by Antti Sarpila and Jussi Fredriksson. At the terrace on Saturday, a Baltic Sea-themed conversation will be held including Archipelago Sea Jazz environmental partners John Nurminen Foundation and Keep the Archipelago Tidy Association. The event, titled Long Term Memory of the Sea, will be hosted by Lassi Lahteenmäki and includes speakers such as photographer and author of book Meren muisti – Havets minne Raimo Sundelin, Keep the Archipelago Tidy Association’s Executive Manager Aija Kaski and the 17-year old environmental activist and Turku Sea Jazz summer employee Maia Majabacka.

It is advised to reach the Ruissalo Boatyard by public transportation services provided by Föli, the water bus or by bike as parking spaces are limited. You can also find tickets on Tiketti that include the festival’s own jazz bus ride on both days. The bus leaves Turku Center 16.30 and returns after the last concert around midnight. Additionally, you can reach the Ruissalo Boatyard with the litter-picking boat Roska-Roope while listening to a solo gig by saxophonist Max Zenger! Lucky passengers to the boat will be raffled during the festival week on social media.

Turku Sea Jazz reminds attendees to wash their hands frequently and advises to use a mask in situations where there are crowds of people and avoiding close contacts is challenging.  You may not attend the event when you have flu-like symptoms. Recent foreign travelers, and those who have returned from high-risk countries, are advised to take a coronavirus test before attending the event.
