Jazzahead! brings Finnish jazz to European limelight

Once in a year Bremen turns into an international meeting point for the international jazz scene. This year’s Jazzahead! Trade Fair is held from 19th to 22nd of April. Music Finland and Jazz Finland coordinate the Finnish stand and events arranged at the festival. Stay tuned of the Finnjazz action on Jazz Finland website!

Jazzahead! is a unique concept combining a showcase festival, conference and exhibition. The event has become the must-go networking event for the global jazz scene. Since its premiere in 2006, the Jazzahead has brought to Bremen over three thousand professionals and 15.000 concert visitors from all around the world. This spring twenty Finnish delegates are participating the Jazzahead! Trade Fair.

Every year Jazzahead! chooses a partner country, to which the opening showcase night is dedicated. The selected country will be the focus point of various events that introduce the country’s culture beyond jazz and music. This year’s partner country is Poland and they present eight Polish bands on the first showcase night.

Finland was the partner country last year and thanks to the successful cooperation, the Finns are well presented at this year’s festival too. Next to other Nordic countries, Finland has its own stand at the fair and six Finnish artists perform at different venues during the weekend.

Finnish groups Joonas Haavisto Trio and Pauli Lyytinen Magnetia Orkesteri were chosen to perform at the Showcase Festival at the European Jazz Meeting, on the 20th of April. On the very evening there is a chance to take part in a jam session, as Music Finland and Jazz Finland arrange the Finnish Friday Afterparty Jamahead! at Magazinekeller. The evening begins with DJ Matti Nives and the jam session is hosted by the house band Jussi Fredriksson Trio. On Saturday it is time to direct towards club Karton where the Jazzahead clubnight is held with theme Cool Suomi!. Finnish bands taking over the stage are Pauli Lyytinen Machinery, Mopo and VIRTA.

You can find all the gigs from Jazz Finland’s calendar and from Jazz Finland International can be found articles and updates of Finns on the spot. Also you'll find the delegates' contact info on the site.
