Janne Murto (b. 1964) arrived to the field of Finnish jazz through the Pop & Jazz Conservatory and the jazz department of Sibelius Academy. He gained big band experience in Espoo Big Band, Upi Sorvali Big Bad Familyssa and most of all in UMO Jazz Orchestra where Murto played the whole 1990s. Murto graduated from the Sibelius Academy with a Master's degree in 1995 and performed in the mid-1990s with Avanti!. The cooperation with the chamber orchestra continued till the end of the decade and Murto played also on the recording of Avanti!I Was Lookin at the Ceiling and Then I Saw the Sky (Nonesuch 1998).
