Papillon 5tet is a band founded by French trumpet player Benjamin Faconnier, with his four Finnish friends: Jimi Ahlroos (saxophone), Severi Seppänen (guitar), Roni Helminen (bass) and Ilari Kinnunen (drums).

Papillon 5tet is a flexible project, born of a turning point in Benjamin Faconnier’s life, and it is the result of a strong need for personal development. This project is meant to be a heterotopia (Foucault, 1967) for the musicians who express themselves through it. What would be more relevant than Papillon (butterfly in french) to embody personal development?

Papillon is the result of Faconnier's strong personal development as well as a lifestyle change, that led him to write his own music. It was after he moved in Oulu, Finland, that Benjamin met the musicians to found this band, work on the music and finally record the album.
