Saxophonist Manuel Dunkel released a new album, Discoveries, after six years. Dunkel is joined by a brilliant quartet: Alexi Tuomarila (piano), Eero Seppä (bass) and Jaska Lukkarinen (drums). Discoveries is an excellent proof of Dunkel’s traditionally aware jazz expression with a top level co-operation by the quartet.
Manuel Dunkel has been one of the most popular jazz musicians since 1990s in Finland, and received an Yrjö award in 2011. His record catalogue is wide: it consists five solo albums and several other projects. Dunkel has recently played in UMO Helsinki and Espoo Big Band concerts and recordings, and in Jim Pembroke and Pekka Tegelman recordings, to name a few.
